Automating Government Policy Loan Process Based on Hyperledger Fabric: Reducing Cost and Improving Customer Experience - Kyusang Lee, Samsung SDS & Do Hyung Kim, Shinhan Bank
A policy loan is a type of government loan that funds small businesses through commercial banks by compiling government and related institutions' budgets. Despite the purpose, the disparate loan process between organizations causes heavy workloads. Customers also face the inconvenience of visiting the organizations several times for the application. Samsung SDS and Shinhan Bank developed a loan management platform based on Hyperledger Fabric to provide practical benefits for both organizations and clients. By automating the process, Shinhan Bank can reduce 12,000 working hours per year, and clients also expect shorter loan application time without visiting institutions. The platform also eliminates the risk of a data discrepancy. This session describes the business process and why blockchain is applied. It also discusses tangible benefits, technologies used, and lessons learned.

The State of Blockchain Interoperability in 2021 - Rafael Belchior, INESC-ID & Instituto Superior Técnico
Blockchain interoperability is emerging as one of the crucial features of blockchain technology, but the knowledge necessary for achieving it is fragmented. This fact makes it challenging for academics and the industry to seamlessly achieve interoperability among blockchains.Given the novelty and potential of this new domain, in this talk, we present an overview of blockchain interoperability, based on a survey comprising a corpus of 332 documents. Our review classifies studies into three categories: Cryptocurrency-directed interoperability approaches, Blockchain Engines, and Blockchain Connectors. Each category is further divided into sub-categories based on defined criteria. We discuss not only studies within each category and subcategory but also across categories, providing a holistic overview of this area including the most recent Hyperledger project, Hyperledger Cactus.

Create Tokens Implementing ERC20 and ERC721 on Hyperledger Fabric - Yuki Kondo, Hitachi, Ltd.
The number of tokens issued on Blockchain is increasing. Token represents various assets like coins, reward points, securities, tickets and properties. Blockchain is used to track the ownership of tokens and keep the transparency of transactions. When B2B companies issue tokens, they need to consider the specification of tokens and the process to get signatures from appropriate stakeholders. Hyperledger Fabric is suitable for B2B tokens because it has built-in features like organization-based identity model, endorsement policies and data privacy. In this session, Yuki will explain the token contributed to fabric-samples and how to try it. The token is Chaincode implementing ERC20 and ERC721 interfaces on Hyperledger Fabric. The Chaincode has functions to issue, transfer and redeem fungible tokens and non-fungible tokens. The token is customizable for advanced use cases.

Hyperledger Fabric Security Monitoring based on Hyperledger Explorer - Benedikt Putz & Fabian Böhm, University of Regensburg
Hyperledger Fabric is increasingly being deployed in production environments by many users, as evident from the many successful Hyperledger use cases. Thus it becomes paramount to detect attempts at attacking them. Our research focuses on monitoring Hyperledger Fabric for ongoing attacks and threats. We chose the Hyperledger Explorer project instead of a SIEM solution, since it offers a good starting point for data analytics with Hyperledger Fabric. For this purpose we extend Explorer with additional data collection and security monitoring features, while contributing bug fixes upstream. The bulk of our development work focused on developing appropriate visualizations for security experts to aid them in detecting attacks. Our talk will focus on the development of these visualizations and the technical challenges we faced with data sources and integration of these Hyperledger projects.

Hyperledger Umbra - Scaling Experiments - Shivay Lamba, Layer5
For the past two years, the Hyperledger Umbra lab has been worked on by mentees to develop the capability of running the unmodified Hyperledger Fabric docker images under a simulated network environment for the purposes of doing experiments on running Fabric networks in a controlled way. At the end of last summer, Hyperledger Umbra achieved the initial goal of running Fabric networks under simulation. Hyperledger Umbra is useful for doing network-level security fuzzing as well as network scaling experiments. Hyperledger Fabric networks are designed to scale up fairly easily, however nobody has actually tried scaling Hyperledger Fabric to many hundreds and thousands of nodes and done analysis on how it affects the characteristics of the distributed system such as time to reach consensus, time to run an election for block creation, etc.

Blockchain, Biometrics and Geo Location: the Implementation of Innovative Technologies at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) - Dino Cataldo Dell’Accio, UNJSPF & Shashank Rai, UNICC
In January 2021, in accordance with its digital transformation strategy, UNJSPF deployed a solution based on blockchain and biometrics to transform a legacy process with a global reach (70K beneficiaries located in more than 195 countries). The solution offers an alternative to paper-based processes. UNJSPF beneficiaries are required to sign and submit a ‘Certificate of Entitlement,’ or ‘CE,’ every year as a “proof of existence” and proof of country of residence, to continue receiving their benefits. With this ‘Digital CE solution,’ UNJSPF aims to create, verify and secure the digital identities of beneficiaries - while also preventing fraud – using biometrics; identifying their locations with geo-location technology; and storing transactions on an immutable, traceable and independently auditable ledger, using the Hyperledger Indy blockchain platform. The Digital CE solution addresses both technical or business audiences with focus on innovation and technology for social good. This solution was selected as a finalist in Gartner’s Eye on Innovation Awards for Government 2020. It was selected because it demonstrated how emerging technology can be combined to allow the service to be delivered in a completely different way, improving integrity and efficiency.

UAE Trade Connect - UAE's First and Largest Blockchain based Trade Finance Platform - Waqas Mirza, Avanza Innovations
Banks offer various Trade Finance solutions to their clients under Letters of Credit or Open Account using products and solutions like, Trust Receipt Financing, Invoice Discounting, Factoring, Receivable Finance and Supply Chain Finance. The challenges that banks face is the risk of potential double financing and frauds as there is no robust mechanism in place to validate the genuineness of the underlying trade transactions or whether the transaction has been pre-financed through any other bank. These risks have evolved leaving the banks to grapple with severe Financial Crime Risks like, over and under invoicing, Sanctions, Trade Based Money Laundering, resulting in fraud losses to banks and reduced financing to Corporates and SMEs. Developed on Hyperledger Fabric, UAE Trade Connect (UTC) is a State of The Art National Platform for digitizing and securing Trade.

The Poisoned Well, Supply Chain Security, Open Source and Hyperledger - Vipin Bharathan, dlt.nyc
A software supply chain attack happens when a malicious party modifies any part of a software development stack to compromise a target down the chain. Any user of the target can be breached using the modifications in order to attack the system directly or to deliver a malicious payload. The recently well-publicized Solar winds hack has brought this vulnerability into focus. A vulnerability that has gained in potency and reach due to widespread use of COTS and COSS software. This talk starts by covering the history of such attacks as well as the types and the lead actors in the attacks. Open source software is crucial in the software ecosystem. The openness of FOSS is leveraged by supply chain attackers. The talk is aimed at raising awareness of supply chain vulnerability in open source development. Some mitigation measures are discussed, including applicability to Hyperledger.

Privacy Enabled Immunity Credential System on Blockchain - Harika Narumanchi, Tata Consultancy Services
Immunity credentials facilitate vaccinated individuals to authenticate their immunity while returning to work or travel, etc. Privacy enabled credentials that do not rely on centralized parties are essential to secure users’ sensitive data. We present a decentralized system that provides verifiable credentials to prove immunity in a privacy preserving manner. Our system provides strong cryptographic guarantees for privacy and verifiability. We leverage a special cryptographic primitive, Content Extraction Signature (BLS Signatures), that enables selective disclosure of immunity claims in a verifiable manner. Immutable record of claims on Blockchain ensures authenticity of claims during the credential verification process. Our solution enables users to reuse the tamper-proof verification status recorded on blockchain ledger without recurrent proof generation and verification process.

Transparency, Security and Auditability of Critical Reporting Chains with Blockchain - Nikolaos Saklampanakis & Ece Kubilay, Fujitsu
E. Kubilay and N. Saklampanakis will present a joint project of Fujitsu and Hexagon that brings together IoT, AI , security monitoring and HL-Fabric for handling critical security events. Handling security incidents, results in reporting chains: The creation of an alarm, the context, the handling it receives, and finally the auditing process, are all rings of such a reporting chain. Critical security incidents might result increased monetary costs or even lead to life-threatening situations if not handled optimally. It is thus of utmost importance to ensure that the event is handled with the highest possible standards, and that the reporting chain depicts the truth in a transparent auditable manner. And these are exactly the challenges we address with Hyperledger Fabric. Join our session to get insights and lessons learned from building this project and enjoy a live demo.

EBaaS: Estate Blockchain as a Service for the Real Estate Industry - Dongcheng Lin, Shanghai Tianji Network Co.,Ltd
With the progress of informatization in real estate industry in China, a large amount of data has been accumulated. Due to the protection of user privacy and enterprise core data assets, the systems of enterprises are independent of each other and form information islands, therefore, the large amounts of data could not be fully utilized.

EBaaS (Estate Blockchain as a Service) is a proprietary real estate consortium blockchain technology developed by Tianji Network of E-House China, based on Hyperledger Fabric. It leverages the features of blockchain technology including decentralization, tamper proof and privacy protection, to achieve the peer cooperation of real estate developers, property management companies and brokers. EBaaS breaks the information islands, democratizes data sharing and cooperation and restructure the production relations in the real estate industry.

Compatibility and Pitfalls of Architectural Patterns with Blockchain Use-Cases - Arnab Chatterjee, BOSCH
As blockchain implementations progress towards production-grade implementations, we reflect upon the most common Architectural design patterns that do and does not fit well with Blockchain use-cases. The design of popular Blockchain platforms like Hyperledger Fabric and Hyperledger Besu prompts the choice of some natural Architectural Design patterns to be incorporated into the application's architecture. An example is the Event Sourcing with CQRS because of the limited querying capability of Blockchains. On the other hand, one has to be aware of some Patterns' pitfalls with Blockchain use-cases. Using SOA or Microservice architecture require synchronization between services to send transactions to the ledger - due to race conditions in Fabric. This talk focuses on Architectural Patterns, pitfalls, trade-offs, compatibility in the context of Blockchain dApps.

Operations Smart Contract (OpsSC) for Hyperledger Fabric v2.x - Tatsuya Sato, Hitachi, Ltd.
Operations Smart Contract (OpsSC) is a smart contract-based system operation tool for blockchain-based systems. This enables decentralized system operations over multiple organizations efficiently. OpsSC for Hyperledger Fabric v2.x was registered as a Hyperledger Labs project on Feb 2021 and is now available on https://github.com/hyperledger-labs/fabric-opssc. In OpsSC, a system operational flow is defined as a smart contract and each organization operates their own nodes according to the smart contract. The value of OpsSC is inter-organizational operations can be performed 1) without relying on decisions by a specific organization 2) with uniform procedure / parameters 3) efficiently. For applying this to Fabric, Tatsuya has developed OpsSC which is essential for managing Fabric network. It helps make end-to-end operational workflows for chaincode and channel operations more efficient.

DIDComm and the Self-Sovereign Internet - Phillip J. Windley, Ph.D., Brigham Young University
DIDComm is the messaging protocol implemented in Hyperledger Aries that provides utility for DID-based relationships. Many may think DIDComm is just a way to exchange credentials, but it's more than that. DIDComm is a protocol layer capable of supporting specialized application protocols for specific workflows. Because of its general nature and inherent support for self-sovereign relationships, DIDComm provides a basis for a self-sovereign internet much more private, enabling, and flexible than the one we've built using Web 2.0 technologies. This talk introduces DIDComm, discusses its protocological nature, and presents use cases in the Internet of Things. Demonstrations of DIDComm protocol interactions will be shown on the Pico platform, which implements the Aries Cloud Agent (ACA) specification.

Utility NFTs on Hyperledger Fabric - Dr. Muhammad Ali Khan, Staque
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have taken the market by storm. However, all notable examples - music, sports, digital art - can be classified as "design tokens" (dNFTs) as they primarily gain value through aesthetic or emotional appeal. We believe there is a whole untapped market for "utility tokens" (uNFTs) that would derive value from functionality and utility certificates. While dNFTs are easily minted on public blockchains with contract-oriented programming support, the complexity of uNFTs requires chaincode execution in a general language, and often, in permissioned settings. This makes Hyperledger Fabric a perfect fit for our use cases which include uNFTs for compiling and trading provably valid data, tokenizing machine learning models with performance certificates, and using the above for lifecycle management of ESG projects attached to green and sustainability bonds. The second application will be demonstrated, and the rest discussed during the talk.

Fast, Secure, and Accurate Evaluation of Prescription Drug Reimbursement Claims using Hyperledger Fabric - Alevtina Dubovitskaya, Swisscom AG
For the reimbursement of some new medicines, health authorities authorize a pre-approval process based on clinical criteria by the health insurance provider. The traditional pre-approval process is paper-based, lacks interoperability and trust, and is often time-consuming, costly, and error-prone. A consortium consisting of a pharmaceutical company, insurance companies, two large teaching hospitals, and a technology provider, created a blockchain-based system using Hyperledger Fabric to optimise the pre-approval process and improve patient treatment. The system was tested with clinical patient data in the setting and compared with the traditional paper-based process regarding. Alevtina will present the system design and implementation, comparative results, and the advantages and barriers for the adoption of blockchain technology for medication cost approval and reimbursement management

Bringing Trust and Privacy-Preserving Smart Contracts to Clinical Trials in Healthcare - Andrew Weiss, UMBC (in partnership with Softhread) & Bruno Vavala, Intel
The Healthcare ecosystem is undergoing a digital transformation to improve efficiency and costs. However, the transition from paper forms to PDFs, and from mail to email, still leaves many regulatory compliance aspects prone to human error. This is often the case with multi-site research clinical trials, which are subject to antiquated, costly and centralized data management processes. Each site is responsible for obtaining informed consent from participants, but problems associated with data integrity and conformance to the study’s guidelines can arise. Softhread will discuss how blockchain can be used in multi-site clinical trials to address existing security challenges and streamline information sharing. Also, with IBM and Intel, it will showcase a platform based on Fabric Private Chaincode, that preserves smart contract transaction confidentiality in hybrid cloud deployments.

Predicate Proofs: Tips on Proving Without Revealing - Michael Bailey, Paramount Software Solutions
Indy and Aries have been designed with strong privacy protection as a foundational principle. In addition to putting personal information under the control of the end users, zero-knowledge and predicate proofs are used to keep users from needing to provide more than the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish their purposes. For example, there is no need for a bartender to know an exact birth date to prove age-based qualification to purchase an alcoholic beverage. Common implementations of age-based qualification depend on an “age” field in a verifiable credential, instead of on the birth date. A better solution is to base the credential on a birth date that is in a human-readable format that is also amenable to being processed by the current predicate proof technology. A demonstration of predicate proofs using such a format for dates, ISO 8601, will be presented.

Trading Partner Authentication and Drug Verification in the US Pharmaceutical Supply Chain - Ben Taylor, LedgerDomain
In 2013 the Drug Supply Chain Security Act was signed into law to address the growing threat of counterfeit drugs and to ensure prescription drugs remain safe and effective. It also created new requirements for US pharmaceutical supply stakeholders, including an extended "know your customer" requirement. While larger Authorized Trading Partners (ATPs) have connectivity solutions in place, newer and smaller ATPs have not traditionally participated, including tens of thousands of dispensers. During this session, Ben Taylor will discuss the results of a peer-reviewed study that tested ATP authentication and enhanced verification in a real-world pharmacy with genuine drug packages. Participants from Genentech, Sanofi, Amgen, and UCLA Health tested enhanced verification workflows backed by Hyperledger Fabric, and were able to authenticate requests with secure verifiable credentials.

Access for the Next Billion - Decentralizing Authentication and Handover in 4G LTE/5G - Sudheesh Singanamalla, University of Washington
Cellular networks have traditionally been operated exclusively by a small number of national-scale mobile network operators (MNOs) like Verizon, AT&T etc., using a wide-area licensed spectrum and deploying expensive edge elements like base stations or leased towers while running specialized software. The economics make it extremely difficult for large operators to increase cellular network coverage in rural areas leaving more than a billion people worldwide without Internet access. To address this challenge, smaller organizations are beginning turn to unlicensed spectrum, neutral host architectures, private LTE/5G, or community cellular networks (CCNs) for low cost connectivity in local areas. With smaller community run telecom operators, it becomes important to efficiently interoperate between them. This talk looks at decentralizing telecoms to improve connectivity for the next billion.

Legal and Regulatory Barriers to Digital Trade - Dr. Maria Mogilnaya, EBRD & Andrea Frosinini, Trade Finance Freelance
The global coronavirus pandemic has put a spotlight on the urgent need to move away from paper documents in trade transactions. And while trade and trade finance transaction across the developing countries are still very much paper-based, the future of trade is digital. When developed countries make the shift to digital processing of trade and trade finance transactions, it will be up to development banks to ensure that local commercial banks across developing countries are not left behind! This session will present the results of the 2021 survey of the legal/regulatory readiness by the developing countries in the EBRD regions to embrace digitalisation in trade and trade finance as well as the intrinsic barriers to digital trade and the development of ecosystems to support digital solutions. This session will also offer ideas on the adoption of legal frameworks to enable digital trade.

Lessons Learned Launching Bakong, a Hyperledger Iroha-based "synthetic CBDC" - James Edwards, Soramitsu Helvetia AG
Dr. Edwards will address challenges and opportunities facing Bakong, a "synthetic CBDC" built by Soramitsu and the National Bank of Cambodia with Hyperledger Iroha at its core. Bakong utilises a two-tier architecture in which digital currency is created and transactions are written on a ledger maintained by the central bank, while KYC and retail account management are handled by commercial bank partners, taking advantage of Iroha's robust permissions system. Blockchain Interoperability: Challenges, Ongoing Efforts, and Potential Solutions - Vinayaka Pandit, IBM Research - India
DLTs have seen signifiant innovation and a wide range of application, from streamlining cross-company business processes and tokenizing assets to supporting self-sovereign identity. But increasing protocol heterogeneity and network specialization is driving the emergence of data and value silos, impeding the vision of a decentralized Internet. Addressing this issue requires seamless interoperation between diverse DLT networks while preserving the properties of decentralization beyond the boundaries of a single network. In this talk, Vinayaka will analyze interoperability and its technical and governance challenges, survey prominent efforts and emerging patterns in this area, and present a point of view on the salient design aspects of blockchain interoperability stemming from his experience of enabling interoperability between networks built on multiple different blockchain protocols.

Ricardian Insurance Risk Transformation Language - Vipin Bharathan, DLT.NYC & Kirthi Kurra, Civitas Fintech
Today distribution of contract information in the reinsurance space is via email, paper and pdf. These legacy practices prevent straight through processing of information adding cost, duplication and drag to the insurance value chain. Our proposal highlights the need for Ricardian contract structure in reinsurance. We discuss how the form allows a contract to move from the world of law, through the world of cryptography and into the world of accountancy. We articulate how Insurance risk transformation (Transformer: Vehicles) can deliver capital efficiently to Carriers, and ring fence it using UK HM Treasury design principles. We strive to ease flow of capital, improve transparency and efficiency by the incorporating Ricardian insurance risk transformation (RIRT) in Hyperledger. A new lab is being constituted under Hyperledger banner, to be live by June 2021.

Does Industrial Asset Management Provide Good Use Cases for Verifiable Credentials and Distributed Ledgers? - Oliver Pfaff & Andreas Kind, Siemens AG
This presentation investigates how decentralized trust technologies can help to automate the asset management in industrial automation. Industrial automation is concerned with the automation of production processes in manufacturing, utilities, and supply/service processes. Asset management is important: actors need to understand which equipment is used, where it is deployed, in which setup it is operated. This demands automation to improve asset information availability and quality. Ironically, automation for the asset management of industrial automation equipment is not yet championed by the industrial automation industry. Current practices use manual steps, media breaks, shortcuts. Improving the asset management for industrial automation requires advanced means to assign information to industrial automation equipment, to exchange and to process this information in a secure way.

Using Blockchain to Reduce Electronic Waste and Make Recycling Commercial Viable - Nina Schmulius, 7479c
According to the UN report, we produced 53.6 million tons of e-waste in 2019. Less than 20 percent of it was collected and professionally recycled. What happened to the rest is uncertain. But it is assumed, that a lot of electronics ends up in garages or basements and never reaches recycling yards. We know also, that companies resell e-waste on a grand scale from countries like US, Germany or UK to nations like Ghana, India or Brazil. There the e-waste ends up in landfills, handled unprofessionally, poisoning humans and environment. Yet old devices are real gold mines: smartphones, laptops, refrigerators contain valuable metals and rare earths, their recycling is economically and ecologically worthwhile. So it is time to develop new solutions for how we deal with e-waste – one includes blockchain, that allows us to make the recycling process traceable for consumers.

How Blockchain will Reengineer the Media Value Chain in the Covid and Post-Covid World? - Rajesh Dhuddu, Tech Mahindra
Since 2018-19, the Media & Entertainment industry has been undergoing a shift with increasing number of viewers migrating from the ‘linear’ broadcast services to Over-The-Top (OTT) services. Further, the demand and consumption of content had been on an exponential rise. Viewers are demanding more content and to address this requirement, the media companies have started producing more titles on a regular basis making them prone to piracy, content infringement, IPR violations and royalty related disputes. The onset of the pandemic in 2020 further accentuated the trend towards OTT platforms as there was a global lockdown on theatrical distribution. Blockchain in COVID-19 Fight – US HHS Testing Results Reporting Using Distributed Ledger - Mark Rakhmilevich & Bala Vellanki, Oracle
Accurate COVID-19 test results are necessary for pandemic surveillance and response – directing testing resources, targeting therapeutics and vaccines, focusing pandemic control measures. Traditional reporting by the labs and testing vendors raises concerns of human & network errors and risks of tampering. As testing moves outside the labs to nursing homes, work sites, airports, etc. concerns about fraud, tampering, and improper PHt handling are even greater. HHS/CDC WATERS – an Oracle COVID-19 Test Results solution based on Oracle Blockchain Platform helps HHS and NIH RADx participants creating rapid testing devices to address challenges of At-Anywhere diagnostics. Live since January, this solution won 1st prize in HHS design-a-thon. It ingests results from labs & many FDA-approved at-home and point-of-care testing devices and providers, including Abbott’s BinaxNOW™, Ellume, and Cue™.

Zero Knowledge Proofs: Getting Practical - Mike Lodder, Independent & Avradip Mandal, Fujitsu Labs of America
Zero knowledge proofs and related cryptographic primitives have been talked about more and more in the blockchain space in recent times. Techniques like NIZKs, SNARKs, STARKS, and other ZK tools have been put in to practice in more and more blockchain applications to help achieve privacy and confidentiality. But it's not always clear when and how it is appropriate to use them. In this talk, Avradip and Mike will explain the basics of zero knowledge proofs--how they work, how to use them, and what problems they can be used to solve--while keeping the underlying mathematical content at a limit that most people with a little background in computer security should be able to understand. They will also explain the concrete performance and impacts on efficiency of ZK tools using examples from Ursa. They aim to help developers know when to use ZK tools and then use them.

Panel: Start Simple to Scale Decentralized Identity - Heather Dahl & Kenneth Ebert, Indicio.tech, R. J. Reiser, Liquid Avatar Technologies
When beginning the journey toward decentralized identity deployment, the simpler the system you make, the more likely you are to be successful. In this discussion, Liquid Avatar Technologies and Indicio.tech will share how together they are transitioning the current KABN ID solution to verifiable credentials by building the Liquid Avatar Verifiable Credentials Ecosystem utilizing Hyperledger Aries, Ursa, and Indy. This new system will enable online identity assurance which includes a digital credentials wallet and platform for issuers, verifiers, and individuals. By first focusing a simple deployment of decentralized identity, along with supporting marketing and governance, it allows for an iterative implementation in a controlled credential environment versus the chaos that can ensue when trying to attempt a larger scale roll-out in the early days.

Curbing Node Size with Bonsai Tries in Hyperledger Besu - Danno Ferrin
The amount of disk storage needed to operate a "full" node in the Ethereum ecosystem has always been a challenge. The needs to balance full current states for new transactions against storage needs for full historical queries is often misunderstood. Measurements of needed disk space vary from 400 GiB to 6TiB or more depending on use cases to run a mainnet node. Bonsai Tries is Hyperledger Besu's next-generation storage layout designed to address some of these concerns. It provides a minimal impact to full sync while allowing full historical transaction execution capabilities with large savings in space. This approach also limits the long term growth of a full node. In this demo the methods used to achieve this savings will be shown as well as live demos of some of the key features.

Enhanced-privacy DID and Efficient Zero-knowledge Proof Comparison and Implementation in Hyperledger (CL-Signature and ZK-SNARKs) - Gyeongjin Ra, & Taehoon Kim, Soonchunhyang University
The capacity for users to monitor the custody of their own identifiers and credentials and novel data ownership and governance identity management(IDM) models with built-in control and consent mechanisms can be supported by blockchain technology. In particular, proof of zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) allows for efficient data verification and selective disclosure without exposing it. ZK SNAKRs was applied to cryptocurrency Z-Cash, CL-Signature has been applied to the Hyperledger Fabric INDY project and various DIDs. Our contribution is we modify and implement the ZK-SNAKRs scheme used in Z-Cash for the Hypberledger Fabric. Then, We design and develop the Enhanced-Privacy IDM Framework using the pre-mentioned ZKP. We have implemented and validated ZK-SNAKRs being more efficient in proof verification than CL-Signature in the same environment called Hyperledger.

The Right to be Forgotten Meets Blockchain: Native GDPR Compliance for Hyperledger Fabric - Yacov Manevich, IBM
Append-only structures such as blockchain, never forget their past. Once user data gets into a block, it stays there forever. The right to be forgotten seems to be in conflict with this nature, and at first glance, erasure of user data and blockchains, cannot coexist. We present how GDPR compliance can be easily and simply incorporated into Hyperledger Fabric in a native manner, which grants users with the right to be forgotten. Our design draws from Hyperledger Fabric's unique architecture, and modifies the block structure in a backward compatible manner, eliminating user data from the blockchain without sacrificing correctness or consistency . We evaluated our solution and found that it provides GDPR compliance with only a minimal performance overhead, making it a viable solution for Hyperledger Fabric or any other execute-order-validate type blockchain.

Panel: How Blockchain Can Be Used for Good - Mary Hall, CipherTrace; Johnna Powell, ConsenSys; Viji Krishnamurthy, Oracle; Lucia Latorre, LACChain
It isn’t often we come across a technology that is as far reaching as Blockchain in its ability to improve the lives of world’s underrepresented. In this talk, we will show how Blockchain, with the power of democratization of data and decentralized governance, is helping to solve compelling societal problems. We will discuss use cases and design considerations to innovate with Blockchain. Our world runs on data. Every transaction we make requires verification and is often performed by a centralized body. Such a system results in power imbalance of approvers vs. the approved, thereby limiting participation and collaboration. Blockchain can help level the playing field and inequities via its collaborative nature. With blockchain, processes can be automated with the help of a technology that provides secured democratization of data with programmability of transaction logic.

Verifiable Credentials and KYC - Returning Control Back to the Customer, a Loyalty Case Study - Mahesh Balan, Pravici LLC
In this presentation, Mahesh Balan, CEO of Pravici will present a unique approach to handling customer data in the context of a Loyalty program. Traditional loyalty applications and CRM systems store detailed PII data. What if we changed that paradigm and instead returned the full control of PII data to the member of the loyalty program ?. A member can then have full control of their PII data, in the form of a verifiable credential stored in an Identity Wallet in their loyalty app. At Pravici, we have built a loyalty application for consortiums based on Hyperledger Fabric which allows a set of companies to cooperate and run a common loyalty application. Inspired by Hyperledger Indy and Aries projects, we now have a novel approach to storing and using member PII data, minimizing risk for both the member and the loyalty consortium.

Hosted Discussion: The Future of Blockchain Interoperability - Hart Montgomery, Fujitsu Laboratories of America; Tracy Kuhrt, Accenture, Susumu Toriumi, Datachain, Inc; Venkatraman Ramakrishna, IBM
We live in a world with many interconnected networks. As we replace the networks that require distributed trust with blockchains, we will need more and more communication between these interconnected networks that have become blockchains. Moreover, we expect that there will be no "one size fits all" blockchain--we will need information, tokens, and transactions to flow between many different kinds of blockchains. In this discussion, our panelists will share their visions for this future. One panelist will give a brief introduction on the current status of blockchain interoperability and integration and the growth that this field is seeing. We will then open the floor to discussion on what the future of blockchain interoperability will be and what we need to do as a community to get there.

Digital ID: Understanding Perceptions and Expectations - Alissa Worley & Christine Leong, Accenture
”Identity” is part of our everyday lives—in banking, paying bills, on social media, or boarding a plane. At its core, identity in a digital world is about trust – trust that each party in an interaction is who they say they are. Accenture is currently conducting research that explores impressions of, attitudes around and behaviors influencing, identity, privacy, data sharing mindsets—the transactional element of our personal data. What will it take to drive not only acceptance but demand for digital identity capabilities in how we engage with businesses and organizations? How do these attitudes differ by jurisdiction and experience? What is the appetite for a new model of digital id that gives us greater control and confidence around who we're interacting with in a digital world? This presentation will showcase these findings with a Q+A discussion to follow about what it means.

Blockchain Hyperledger All-in-one: Fabric CA, Fabric, Explorer, Raft, Chaincode and Monitoring - Magno Alves Cavalcante, PETROBRAS
Establishing a corporate blockchain network in a productive environment has some challenges that must be solved by blockchain solution architects. This presentation was organized from our experience in creating blockchain environments, quality and productive, for a software system that uses blockchain as a data storage solution in its backend to execute a decentralized and distributed multi-organization business process. The presentation will focus on how the blockchain architect may configure the Hyperledger frameworks together, Fabric CA + Fabric + Explorer, on a network with multiple Raft orderers, and how to guide the development team to establish resources that can provide the monitoring over the blockchain components of organization, as well as the verification of each chaincode that is published in the system.

Building the Next Generation of Aries Agents - Andrew Whitehead, Representing Govt of British Colombia
For the past year, the team at BC Gov and contributors to the Aries CloudAgent Python project have been working to extend the capabilities of the agent software while maintaining flexibility in the face of evolving standards and use cases. Historically, the project has depended heavily on the Hyperledger Indy SDK, but moving forward this dependency is shifting onto a trio of new Hyperledger projects. Indy-VDR (ledger transactions), Indy-Credx (Indy verifiable credentials), and Aries-Askar (secure storage) have all been contributed in the past year and will continue to evolve independently. Supporting multiple backends as well as a family of Aries communication protocols raises interesting design questions for ACA-Py. Andrew will provide a guided tour of its architecture as well as the possibilities made available by this new model.

A Blockchain-enabled Solution to Drive Material Traceability Along the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain in Asia - Daniel Laverick & Zhang Haisheng, Zuellig Pharma
Pharmaceutical supply chains are complex structures spanning across multiple organizations and stakeholders along its handover points. Such system complexities generate a lack of transparency, limited data provenance and the inherent inability to track the healthcare products’ activities. Counterfeit drugs, parallel imports, operational inefficiencies resulting in compromised product integrity and hence product wastage are consequences of such limitations within existing supply chains. It is apparent that an end-to-end product tracking visibility across the pharmaceutical supply chain is paramount to ensure product safety to its end-users as well as minimize manufacturers’ operational costs.

Here, we present our solution, eZTracker, which is powered by Blockchain Hyperledger Fabric. Our speakers will share today’s challenges in pharmaceutical supply chain visibility and collaboration, as well as our system architecture that govern our proposed solution to address the needs for pharma material traceability and quality reassurance. Used cases in Asia will also be shown to illustrate our blockchain-enabled journey and the outcomes we aim to achieve in the near future.

Trust Data Sharing and Utilization Infrastructure for Sensitive Data using Hyperledger Avalon - Koshi Ikegawa & Nao Nishijima, Hitachi, Ltd.
In the World Economic Forum 2019, Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) was advocated. Especially for some domains such as medical institutions and governments, where privacy protection is essential, it must handle sensitive data such as healthcare data and personal information. A distributed ledger technology makes it possible to share data among multiple organizations with trust. However, it is not suitable for sensitive data because the distributed ledger discloses stored data to all organizations. In this research, we solve the problem with an approach to store the sensitive data on external storage in a specific organization for each data to avoid sharing the data with all organizations.

Identity Proofing Solution Combining HL Indy and Fabric - Mark Rakhmilevich, Oracle & Mike Vesey, IdRamp
The need for trusted identity is growing with remote workforce and online government services due to the pandemic and risk of fraud and data leaks. Decentralized verifiable identity meets this need with a strong trust model. Speakers will demo identity proofing and issuance of verifiable credentials to a city resident. Oracle Blockchain Platform (HL Fabric) manages data gathering & audit logging. IdRamp services based on HL Indy/Aries running in the Oracle Cloud ensure interoperability & protect PII. In the demo a resident requests city credentials by scanning physical documents for automated and human verification, then uses their credentials for verified access to a court hearing. Verifiable credentials support universal access to city services and, with self-sovereign approval, can be shared with other jurisdictions, avoiding additional physical proofing and the risk of sharing PII.

Building and Measuring Valuable Ecosystems - Mark Cudden, we.trade innovation DAC
The way organisations acquires, perceives and derives value from software, platforms and services is changing. No longer are organisations entering into a bi-lateral agreement with a software, platform or service providers. They enter ecosystems. What are these ecosystems? What is the minimum viable ecosystem? How is value of the ecosystem measured? These metrics can be hard to define and get right when working in world of blockchain with new business networks, disrupting existing business models, unlocking new ways of working at times, side by side with competitors, or parties who do not trust one another. Value is perceived based on the strength, reputation and participation level of ecosystems members and from the products and services available to ecosystems members. These ecosystems are based on co-opetition and collaboration with like-minded businesses.

Integrated Supply Chain Ecosystems: Leading Industries Towards More Open & Trusted Data Sharing - Robin Pilling, Dis3bute - The Distributed Technology Company
With global supply chains becoming increasingly complex and interdependent across industries, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that most companies still struggle to understand supply chain processes as part of the entire industry value chain. Integrated supply chain ecosystems hence have a tremendous potential to create more transparent and resilient supply chain processes across a full network of value chain participants. However, industries still struggle with sharing data across multiple companies as a key driver of these ecosystems. Technology experts argue that blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) could help to solve the data sharing problem. The presentation discusses various industry use cases and provides reasoning for integrated supply chain ecosystems as nurturing ground for multi-party business application development on Hyperledger.

Covid Vaccine Beneficiary Identification using Verifiable Credentials - Punit Kumar & Hitarshi Buch, Wipro Technologies
COVID vaccination drives are being carried out across the globe. It is imperative to identify and segregate persons with the highest risk of infection so that the vaccine can be administered to them first. Therefore it is important that the individual's identity is established and their vaccine eligibility is determined in a secure and trust worthy way.

Punit & Hitarshi will be showcasing a solution that leverages the power of DID (Decentralized Identity) and Verifiable credentials, which helps in determining the vaccine beneficiaries by ensuring that the individual has the required authorization. This solution is built using Hyperledger Indy and Aries and comprises of the identity holder (beneficiary), identity issuer (nation health agency) and identity verifier (vaccine providers).

Blockchain Design Patterns: Academia Meets Enterprise - Aneena Ann Alexander, Saintgits College of Engineering, Kerala & Arun S M, Walmart Global Tech India
Design patterns provide a framework for solving known problem statements. Blockchain proves to be useful and revolutionary in various industries and use cases including but not limited to Supply Chain, Trade Finance, CBDCs, Health care, etc.The major architectural consideration for blockchain-based software applications is, what data and smart contracts should be kept on-chain and what should be kept off-chain. A random design pattern causes tradeoffs among quality attributes. The patterns of the known real-world use cases, from the problem statements to discussions on what makes the problem difficult, its solutions and consequences, and the possible ways to design around multiple platforms and Hyperledger DLTs will be discussed. In addition to that, we also identify the governance design process that could be adopted by someone who is deploying a business in a blockchain network.

Documents are as Important as Codes - Yang Cheng, China Academy of Information and Communication Technology
Many developers think that code is the most important thing in developing a project, so their focus is to write beautiful codes with developer friendly comments, while ignore the user documents. In fact, the user documents are the first material when they touch a project. Only after in-depth use can they look at the code to understand the implementation principle. Therefore, the user documents determine whether your project will attract more users.

On the other hand, the internet has narrowed the global distance, but language is the biggest obstacle to our communication, so the internationalization of documents is becoming more and more important. Generally speaking, many project use English to write relevant documents, but 80% of the people in the world are not native English speakers, so having multilingual documents will attract more users for a project.

Keynote: Trustless Truth: How Private and Public Ledgers can Take on Misinformation —and Win - Jonathan Dotan, Founding and Director of the Starling Lab, Stanford University + USC Shoah Foundation
For 78 days, culminating in the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, teams at Stanford and USC’s Starling Lab worked together with Reuters to document the transition from Donald J. Trump to Joe Biden with an array of new open source image authentication technologies and decentralized web protocols. The prototype archive the team created is a time capsule for both this historic moment in U.S. politics and a microcosm of the difficulties reporters face in our digital age.

In this keynote, Jonathan covers the tools and methods used in this case study, including Hyperledger Fabric, Hedera Hashgraph, IPFS, Filecoin, and GUN. Each is at the frontier of open source image standards, encryption, and Web 3.0 publishing technology. By orchestrating together these decentralized technologies, the Starling Lab sought to test a viable alternative to the mainstream web infrastructure of today. Joined us to learn more about this important milestone for Hyperledger Fabric and the fight against misinformation.

Rebuilding Supply Chains into Responsible Supply Networks - Tom Fahey & Tal Viskin, Accenture
Supply chain optimization has always been a primary objective for organizations, but what happens when problems are unprecedented, like the beginning of your supply chain getting shut down? COVID-19 suddenly shifted the demands on supply chains as 87% of consumers changing their purchasing behavior with panic buying, a move to online shopping, and a newfound hyper-focus on the quality and safety of critical goods. This brought into focus how many supply chains are too fragile and rigid to respond to unprecedented disruption and events. As sustainability and conscientious consumption become more engrained as top initiatives, businesses need to invest in the resilience of their supply chain. In this session, get inspired by blockchain capabilities and multiparty consortiums that are paving the way for more responsible supply chain networks.

A Pub-Sub Architecture to Promote Blockchain Interoperability - Sara Ghaemi, TELUS
The maturing of blockchain technology leads to heterogeneity, where multiple solutions specialize in a particular use case. While the development of different blockchain networks shows great potential for blockchains, the isolated networks have led to data and asset silos. Blockchain interoperability solutions allow blockchains to support asset and data transfer, resulting in the development of innovative applications. This work proposes a blockchain interoperability solution for permissioned blockchains based on the publish/subscribe architecture. We implemented a prototype of this platform to show the feasibility of our design. We evaluated our solution by implementing example networks using Hyperledger Besu and two different versions of Hyperledger Fabric. We conducted a performance analysis of the whole network that indicates its limits and bottlenecks.

Extending the Operations Smart Contract for Hyperledger Fabric to Support Consortia Governance - Todd Little, Oracle
As consortium blockchains move to decentralized governance, the complexity and cost of operations rise significantly for adding members, updating chaincodes, channel management. These require policy definitions, multi-party approvals, implementation - plus the ability to audit it all. Today it's all out-of-band, but on-chain automation can simplify network scale out & reduce costs. The Operations Smart Contract (OpsSC) for Fabric 2.x is a Hyperledger Labs project for on-chain governance focused on the Fabric 2.0 chaincode lifecycle and channel configs. It enables the chaincode updates to be agreed and recorded in the ledger, but it doesn’t handle membership governance - who can be added, what rights do they have, their information sharing, and overall policy management is missing. This session will discuss ideas for extending the OpsSC to address these issues of consortia governance.

Self-sovereign identity (SSI) is a movement that claims digital identity should be just as legitimate and nuanced as a person’s human identity, while being accessible to all, privacy-preserving, and not reliant on a single government or corporation. The worldwide adoption of SSI has the potential to increase people's access to goods and services, including for disadvantaged individuals that do not have a government ID. Kiva, DIDx, and Farmer Connect are all using SSI backed by Hyperledger Aries/Indy to economically empower people in Africa. The panelists will specifically focus on the successes and obstacles that each of them have faced in helping to bring SSI to Africa. Applying Low-code Development to Chaincode to Expedite Blockchain Adoption - Deepak Goel & Gourav Sarkar, Oracle
Low-code approach lets developers and business users build applications of increasing complexity faster than traditional coding. Based on declarative specification and using visual tools, low-code apps are quicker to create and easier to maintain. This session will discuss low-code approach for chaincode and how it smoothens Blockchain adoption by reducing complexities and time-to-market. Starting with a declarative spec of a Blockchain data model and behaviors, we'll use an IDE to walk through a complete chaincode life cycle from development, testing, debugging to deployment and illustrate how we handle the more complex aspects, e.g.: persistence, multi-level assets, rich queries. The demo uses Oracle’s Blockchain App Builder, released recently to rapidly develop, test and deploy chaincodes using a command line or visual IDE for chaincode generation, test, debugging and deployment.

Traversing the Web of Trust using Hyperledger Aries - Stephen Curran, Cloud Compass Computing Inc.
In early 2018, we wrote this explainer(1) on “traversing the web of trust”, a process that a verifier receiving a verifiable credential presentation uses to decide if they sufficiently “trust” the issuer of the credential to complete a transaction. The cryptography part of verifying the presentation is relatively easy, but deciding if the issuer can be trusted gets into the messy world of human trust. For example, how does an airline checking in passengers know if they can trust the presentation of a COVID-19 vaccination verifiable credential? We’ll go over the “web of trust” concept and survey the central and decentralized mechanisms that are in place now and are planned using Hyperledger Aries to help verifiers make trust decisions about the verifiable presentations they receive. Layer 2 Scaling Solutions in Ethereum and Beyond - Danno Ferrin
If you've looked into Ethereum Mainnet scaling then you've seen a whole lot of terms thrown around like Layer 1, Layer 2, Layer 0, sidechain, rollup, zk snarks, state channels, sharding, and so on. This may leave you confused about what each of these approaches do and may also leave unanswered questions about which solutions are available now and which ones are available "soon." In this presentation I will survey the major scaling solutions including the principals behind the solution and specific projects implementing those solutions and their current deployment readiness. Included for each will be a brief discussion about the viability of hosting each solution on a non-Ethereum DLT.

Hosted Discussion: Decentralized Fabric: Moving Hyperledger Fabric from Consortiums to Public-Permissioned Blockchain Networks - Jesus Ruiz, ALASTRIA
A new kind of blockchain network is appearing, combining permissioning with a decentralized governance model. Public-Permissioned blockchain networks fill the gap between the Public-Permissionless blockchain networks and the Private Consortium networks. Notable examples of such emerging networks are Alastria, LACChain and the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) initiative, a pan-European blockchain network from the European Commission and the Member States. The objective of this presentation is to identify and describe the specific features in the current version of the Hyperledger Fabric project that could be showstoppers for implementing a general, multi-purpose, Public-Permissioned blockchain network of a national or regional scale with a Decentralized Governance model.

Consortium Capabilities for Enterprise Blockchain Success - Dr. Stanton Heister & Dr. Kristi Yuthas, Portland State University
Enterprise blockchain projects have great promise. They can cut costs and promote efficiency through disintermediation, increase transparency for tracking inter-company transactions, expand knowledge through consortia databases, and improve work-flows through shared business processes. Despite its potential, blockchain technology has failed to produce promised benefits for enterprise networks. While the underlying technology has advanced rapidly, managerial capabilities needed to form and manage blockchain consortia have lagged, and few consortia have succeeded. We provide a framework that identifies 1) foundational conditions that precede effective consortium formation, 1) capabilities required for effective consortium functioning and evolution, and 3) partner and ecosystem-level outcomes associated with successful blockchain projects.

How to Create Thriving Ecosystems - Melanie Cutlan, Accenture
In the wake of global disruption this past year, numerous industries formed multiparty systems to coinnovate on solutions like contact tracing and frictionless payments. As businesses are forge their post-pandemic strategies, multiparty systems will become the heart of a new kind of strategic ecosystem partnership—one that not only enables companies to address disruptions, but also creates new ways to approach a market and establish a leadership advantage in which enterprise success is inextricably tied to ecosystem success. So how do you infuse innovative thinking into your ecosystem? How can you foster an environment in which participants can adapt to constant change with agility? In this session, you’ll learn the foundational elements of different consortium methodologies, common ecosystem personas, and how to apply the best thinking of each so your ecosystem can thrive long-term.

The "iDeAL" POC; a Wing-to-wing Proof of Concept for an Inter-company Distributed Accounting Ledger - Gary Crisci, General Electric
As part of the effort to modernize GE's internal billing system, a proof-of-concept for a blockchain based decentralized ledger was built. The end result enables GE to transition its mission critical process from a legacy mainframe to a cloud-based instance of Hyperledger Fabric. In this session, Gary Crisci, Principal Architect at GE, will present the business requirements, and system architecture, that demonstrates how distributed ledger technology is an ideal solution for this use case. The presentation will highlight how data integration between multiple ERPs and Hyperledger Fabric is achieved through REST API endpoints, and how smart contracts codify the business rules that govern the entire process. There will also be a review of a chain-adjacent data warehouse solution that provides financial transaction provenance via rich data visualization dashboards.
