Utpal Mangla ( MBA, PEng, CMC, ITCP, PMP, ITIL, CSM ) is a Vice President and Senior Partner in IBM. He is the Global Leader of IBM’s Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment (TME) Industry’s Center of Competency. In addition, he leads the 'Innovation Competency' focusing on AI, 5G EDGE, Hybrid Cloud and Blockchain Innovations for TME clients worldwide. In his role as senior executive in the business and thought leader in emerging technologies, Utpal’s mission is to fuel growth by building, selling and implementing differentiated competitive market service solution offerings to meeting critical business imperatives of our customers. Under Utpal's leadership, IBM recently achieved the company's mission of making "Watson AI touch 1.5 Billion Consumers” and creation of four “Industry Blockchain platforms”. Utpal is at the forefront of making Hybrid Cloud and 5G / EDGE technologies real for enterprises across the globe by deploying, scaling and replicating B2B solutions globally. Utpal’s team is leading the Telco Network transformation agenda for our clients Utpal has been with IBM (and PwC) since 1998. With 20+ years of consulting, system integration, customer relationships, program delivery and industry experience, Utpal brings depth of expertise and knowledge on building, running and scaling businesses. Utpal has deep experience across all pillars of GBS business including complex program management, turning around DE engagements, sales, account / sector and practice management. Some accomplishments that Utpal is proud of include turning around three very complex engagements, scaling Bell Canada Test Center of Excellence (TCoE) to delivering revenue with double-digit growth, recognized as #1 Quality Engineering reference in IBM, pioneer in moving our services IGNITE QA platform to Redhat OpenShift, building first Cognitive Care ‘industry’ offering in IBM, scaling Watson AI to over 50 carrier clients globally, roadmap for expanding IBM’s ecosystem with ventures & acquisitions. A ‘Best of IBM’ honoree, his team is recipient of numerous awards including prestigious 2020, 2021 Global Quality Assurance awards Utpal is a regular speaker at industry forums, university, and business conferences globally, including GSMA MWC, THINK, TMForum, Dreamforce, Cannes, Fierce5G, CEM Telecoms, Post Lean Institute & European Commission eSkills2030. With 50+ articles, Utpal contributes to white papers, industry blogs, IBV, analyst reports and writes on emerging marketplace trends. He has five patents with recent focus on 5G. Utpal has been quoted in Fortune, Bloomberg TV, MWC, Linux Foundation, BusinssWire, IoTNow, DAIS-ITA, Informs@TMForum LA Business Journal among others. Utpal was on board of ATIS in 2020, is current chair of ISSIP Strategy Council, ISSIP Industry ambassador and member of CompTIA’s IoT Advisory leadership. He is member of IBM’s Executive Partner Promotion committee, Industry Academy, Industry Services Talent Ecosystem & 5G EDGE Acceleration teams. Utpal is deeply engaged with ASPEN Institute’s Center for Inclusive Growth on “Fairness & Accountability in Data Stewardship”, recently nominated to Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development’s (OECD) ‘Network of Experts on AI’ and to OECD’s Computation for AI’ team An active STEM volunteer and P-TECH mentor dedicated to ‘Pathways in Technology, Early College High School” , Utpal supports education outreach initiatives through Univ of Toronto and Professional Engineers Ontario. He recently completed Technovate Volunteer Corps study on Digital empowerment of Canadian social sector. In his role as IBM Academic ambassador, Utpal co-leads annual ‘Workforce of Future’ symposium at California State Univ, Northridge (CSUN), is a distinguished judge at CSUN’s new venture competition and on advisory board of PENN State Univ. Service Enterprise Engineering . He is a Senior Member of IEEE, AI/ML committee member at SCTE (Society of Cable Telco Engineers) and on TMForum’s ‘AI & Data’ advisory committee Utpal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from Pune University (with highest honours) and MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Mgmt. Utpal has also completed executive studies in the Harvard Business School’s strategic leadership, Wharton School’s financial value creation and Stanford Business School's entrepreneurial leadership programs. Utpal holds several designations in fields of IT, SAFE Agile, design thinking and is member of PMI, Post Lean Institute, PEO, TAASQ, CIPS and Association of Management Consultants
